We Are the Only Wheel Shop You Need

August 15th, 2015

Wheels in Abbottstown, PA In the late 50s and early 60s, hot rods had captured the imaginations of drivers everywhere. Hot rodders were thinking of new ways to personalize their vehicles and make them unique…but in those early days, their options for custom wheels were fairly slim. Slotted aluminum rims, chrome-reverse wheels and Cragar’s iconic Super Sport five-spoke cast wheel were among the few choices that were available.

One thing was certain, though – along with custom paint, aftermarket wheels were soon recognized as one of the best ways to make a vehicle truly stand out. What No One Told You about New Tires

August 1st, 2015

Tires in Abbottstown, PA

Yes, tires are still round, black and filled with air…but there’s been a lot of progress in tire technology in the last 25 years, and still more on the way:

  • Tread compounds: By the year 2025, vehicle manufacturers will have to comply with Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards of 54.5 mpg. While there are many ways of meeting that goal, tires are an important part of the picture. Tire engineers are using new tread compounds to lower rolling resistance and help squeeze out a couple of MPGs of fuel economy. While cuts in rolling resistance are difficult to attain, a 5 percent drop in rolling resistance translates to a 1 percent gain in fuel economy. Also, nanotechnology and infusions of silica and sunflower oil are b ...[more]

What Makes All-Season Tires So Great?

June 30th, 2015

So your closet has a pair of flip-flops for the summer, a pair of heavy boots for the winter, and a comfortable pair of sneakers for most of the rest of the year. If you live in a climate that doesn’t have harsh winters, you might just be able to wear those sneakers year-round...and all-season tires are the equivalent of your comfortable sneakers.

So what makes all-season tires so special?

Winter tires are excellent for severe conditions like heavy snow and even ice. They feature specially-designed tread patterns and “sipes”, hundreds of tiny slits which offer biting edges for traction in snow. This means shorter stopping distances, better handling and better control in winter weather. Winter tires are not d

Determining the Age of a Tire

February 14th, 2014
When it comes to determining the age of a tire, it is easiest to identify when the tire was manufactured by reading its Tire Identification Number (often referred to as the tire’s serial number or DOT number). Unlike vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and the serial numbers used on many other consumer goods (which identify one specific item), Tire Identification Numbers are really batch codes that identify several components.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires that Tire Identification Numbers be a combination of the letters DOT, followed by ten, eleven or twelve letters or numbers that identify the manufacturing location, tire size and manufacturer's code, along with the week and year the tire was m ...[more]

Choosing the Right TireWe know you've heard it before, but it's critical enough to repeat: the tires you choose for your vehicle are important. It is critical to understand that the tires on your vehicle are the one single link to the road surface. To keep the rest of your vehicle performing at its peak, your tires are the very foundation of your vehicle.

Different quality tires will last for different periods of time, depending on wear and tear. Regular maintenance is key to longer tread life, but tread wears down over time and with use. Once you get to the point where you need to replace your tires, there are several choices that you can make. The easiest choice is get the exact size and make that originally came on the vehicle, when it was new. Beyond that, you might consider going to a better quality tire o ...[more]
