Mark Auto Repair off Your Back-To-School To-Do List

August 27th, 2015
The kids are going to be headed off to school again before you know it, and then of course, the holidays will start coming one after another between Labor Day and the end of the year. There’s a lot to stay on top of, and auto repair should be one less thing for you, the grownup, to worry about as the year marches on. Here are some suggestions for things you might want to take care of before it all starts rolling again:

• Oil Change – Can’t remember the date of your last oil change? Then it might be a good idea to go ahead and set up another one. Dirty motor oil is so loaded with carbon and other contaminants it will begin to form sludgy carbon deposits on internal engine assemblies and moving parts.

We Are the Only Wheel Shop You Need

August 15th, 2015

Wheels in Abbottstown, PA In the late 50s and early 60s, hot rods had captured the imaginations of drivers everywhere. Hot rodders were thinking of new ways to personalize their vehicles and make them unique…but in those early days, their options for custom wheels were fairly slim. Slotted aluminum rims, chrome-reverse wheels and Cragar’s iconic Super Sport five-spoke cast wheel were among the few choices that were available.

One thing was certain, though – along with custom paint, aftermarket wheels were soon recognized as one of the best ways to make a vehicle truly stand out. For hot rodders, custom wheels offered more than good looks and visual appeal; their brake ventilation, light weight and extra width for traction could offer an edge in performance.

Today, there are custom wheels available to f ...[more]

Do Your Homework on Tire Safety

August 13th, 2015
We see it all the time…people tend to not think about their tires until something goes wrong. Sometimes, this can mean sitting on the side of the road waiting for help, and other times it can mean more serious consequences. Here are a few things to remember for tire safety as the summer winds down and back-to-school season starts.

Check your tire pressure regularly. This one is really important. Your car’s tires will lose air through the valve over time, and an underinflated tire will hurt fuel economy due to added rolling resistance. Low tires also affect handling and will generate enough heat that they can shorten the tire’s lifespan. Get a quality tire gauge (the dial type, not the pencil type) a ...[more]

What No One Told You about New Tires

August 1st, 2015

Tires in Abbottstown, PA

Yes, tires are still round, black and filled with air…but there’s been a lot of progress in tire technology in the last 25 years, and still more on the way:

  • Tread compounds: By the year 2025, vehicle manufacturers will have to comply with Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) standards of 54.5 mpg. While there are many ways of meeting that goal, tires are an important part of the picture. Tire engineers are using new tread compounds to lower rolling resistance and help squeeze out a couple of MPGs of fuel economy. While cuts in rolling resistance are difficult to attain, a 5 percent drop in rolling resistance translates to a 1 percent gain in fuel economy. Also, nanotechnology and infusions of silica and sunflower oil are b ...[more]
